Diane Ruhkala Bell

Where does my art come from? A collection of memories and experiences, an attraction to certain colors and textures, an old piece of rusted metal, plant forms, shapes and lines. I  start a piece with a splash of paint or collage material and have a great adventure seeing where it takes me, applying my medium, removing it,  layers of  paint, paper, wood, wax, ink, pond scum, bones, string….whatever feels right. Sometimes I use several in one creation along with drawings, prints, acrylics, and more recently encaustics and cold wax.

I have always needed to create visual images and feel a void if it is not happening. It is mysterious, challenging and often labor intensive, trying to create something that is uniquely a reflection of my being. When it happens…life is good!
